FAQs

  • Acupuncture is an ancient healing practice that remains relevant today, promoting internal balance and providing relief through the precise insertion of fine needles at specific points and locations.

  • The potential benefits of acupuncture are broad-ranging. Common conditions we treat include:

    • General health: mood, sleep issues, digestion, stress, anxiety, fatigue, immune system support and regulation, as well as overall wellness.

    • Women's health: menstrual issues, hormonal imbalances, fertility support, postpartum recovery, and symptoms related to perimenopause and menopause.

    • Facial acupuncture: cosmetic treatment of fine lines, drooping eyelids, and moderately sagging skin. In addition to relieving jaw pain and tension in the facial muscles, promoting relaxation.

    • Musculoskeletal pain: including pain in the neck, low back, hips, legs, elbows, and shoulders. Can also improve recovery times for athletes.

  • From a biomedical perspective, acupuncture works by promoting the body's innate healing processes, increasing blood flow and microcirculation, modulating inflammation, releasing feel-good neurochemicals, regulating hormones such as cortisol, and engaging the parasympathetic rest-and-digest nervous system.

Additionally, there are still immeasurable effects in the body that help bring about greater balance.

  • Generally speaking, most clients find acupuncture to be surprisingly gentle. A single acupuncture needle is as thin as a human hair.

You may feel a light prick as the needle goes in, but it is typically not painful and quickly subsides if noticed at all. Some people also experience a dull or heavy feeling, which is a normal response. More often than not, clients report feeling deeply relaxed and frequently fall asleep during treatment.

  • Facial acupuncture is a cosmetic treatment that addresses concerns such as fine lines, drooping eyelids, and moderately sagging skin. In this treatment, fine needles are inserted into the face to target specific areas of concern while also stimulating overall collagen and elastin production. For greater results, it is usually recommended to undergo a series of 10-12 treatments.

In addition to its cosmetic advantages, facial acupuncture can help relieve jaw pain and tension in the facial muscles, promoting relaxation.

Typically, a facial acupuncture session will also include acupuncture points on the body to support overall balance and grounding.

  • Although it's possible for your symptoms to improve after just one session, it's more common for a series of treatments to be necessary to effectively address your concerns.

Often, the effects of treatment are cumulative, so we often think in terms of 3 to 4 sessions followed by a reassessment of your progress. During your initial treatment and evaluation, a more tailored estimate of the treatment course may be provided.

For cosmetic facial acupuncture, you will generally need around 10 to 12 sessions scheduled once per week or every two weeks to see a more noticeable effect.

  • Cupping, Gua Sha, and Moxibustion are traditional therapeutic techniques often used in conjunction with acupuncture.

Cupping involves placing glass or plastic cups on the skin to create a vacuum through heat or a pump. This suction draws superficial tissue into the cup, either leaving it in place or moving it along the body. Benefits include improved circulation, lymph flow, toxin removal, and relief from musculoskeletal pain. Circular marks may appear on the skin for a few days to a couple of weeks, but are generally not painful.

Gua Sha is a technique that utilizes a smooth-edged tool, like jade or a ceramic spoon, to scrape along the skin. This action creates red marks, known as "sha," which can last for a few days to a couple of weeks. When used on the face, it is gentle enough to not leave markings. Gua Sha promotes blood flow, reduces muscle adhesions and pain, and helps eliminate toxins.

Moxibustion, or moxa, is a heat therapy that involves burning mugwort (ai ye) near specific acupuncture points. At our clinic, we utilize smokeless moxa sticks. This technique stimulates blood flow, alleviates pain, and, when indicated, restores balance to the body.

  • Herbology is a key component of traditional East Asian medicine, utilizing the beneficial properties of various plants and herbs. These natural substances contain chemical compounds that are the basis for many contemporary medications.

Chinese herbal medicine can aid in addressing numerous health concerns such as digestive problems, respiratory ailments, skin issues, stress-related challenges, sleep disturbances, fertility support, and more.

  • Following an extensive intake and evaluation, Fields will prescribe a tailored Chinese herbal formula to support your treatment goals and overall balance.

This formula will be called into our partnering pharmacy and shipped directly to your preferred address. Please note that the cost of service does not include the price of herbs.

  • At Fields, we believe that nutrition is a vital part of improving health, best achieved through a series of sessions.

During your initial session, we will conduct a thorough intake to assess your health history, concerns, and goals. Our aim is to understand your current situation, your desired outcomes, and to create practical, actionable steps tailored to you.

After our first session, you'll complete a week-long food diary and mood/activity journal, which should be submitted to us at least one week before your follow-up session.

In the follow-up session, we'll review the results of your evaluation and offer recommendations to support your nutritional goals and overall balance.

Subsequent appointments will focus on discussing challenges, providing further guidance, and making necessary adjustments.

Additionally, we may talk about lab testing for potential nutritional deficiencies. As well as offering practical lifestyle advice.
