FAQs

  • Acupuncture is an ancient healing practice that remains relevant today, promoting internal balance and providing relief through the precise insertion of fine needles at specific points and locations.

  • The potential benefits of acupuncture are broad-ranging. Common conditions we treat include:

    • General health: mood, sleep issues, digestion, stress, anxiety, fatigue, immune system support and regulation, as well as overall wellness.

    • Women's health: menstrual and gynecological issues, postpartum recovery, and symptoms related to perimenopause and menopause.

    • Facial acupuncture: cosmetic treatment of fine lines, drooping eyelids, and moderately sagging skin. In addition to relieving jaw pain and tension in the facial muscles, promoting relaxation.

    • Musculoskeletal Issues: including pain in the low back, hips, neck, legs, elbows, and shoulders. Can also improve recovery times for performance athletes.

  • While we do not directly treat infertility, IVF, or pregnant clients at Fields, acupuncture is widely recognized as a supportive therapy for fertility in both men and women.

If you are seeking fertility or pregnancy-related care, we are happy to provide referrals. We believe our clients are best served by a practice specializing in fertility and holding ABORM certification. Certified practitioners can also be found here ~ https://aborm.org/find-a-practitioner/

At Fields, we do offer treatment for other menstrual and gynecological issues. And enjoy supporting our clients through postpartum care and recovery, as well as concerns related to perimenopause and menopause.

  • From a biomedical perspective, acupuncture promotes the body's innate healing processes by increasing blood flow and microcirculation, modulating inflammation, releasing feel-good neurochemicals, regulating hormones such as cortisol, and engaging the parasympathetic nervous system's rest-and-digest response.

And yet there are still immeasurable effects, bringing about a greater sense of grounding, overall balance, and renewal.

  • Generally speaking, most clients find acupuncture to be surprisingly gentle. A single acupuncture needle is as thin as a human hair.

You may feel a light prick as the needle goes in, but it is typically not painful and quickly subsides if noticed. Some people also experience a dull or heavy sensation, which is a normal response. More often than not, clients report feeling deeply relaxed and frequently fall asleep during treatment.

  • Although it's possible for your symptoms to improve after just one session, it's more common for a series of treatments to be necessary to effectively address concerns.

Often, the effects of treatment are cumulative, so we often think in terms of 3 to 4 sessions followed by a reassessment of your progress. During your initial treatment and evaluation, a more tailored estimate of the treatment course may be provided.

  • Cupping, Gua Sha, and Moxibustion are traditional therapeutic techniques which may be used in conjunction with acupuncture.

Cupping involves placing glass or silicone cups on the skin to create a vacuum through heat or suction. This suction draws superficial tissue into the cup, either leaving it in place or moving it along the body. Benefits include improved circulation, lymph flow, toxin removal, and relief from musculoskeletal pain. Circular marks may appear on the skin for a few days to a couple of weeks, but are generally not painful.

Gua Sha is a technique that utilizes a smooth-edged tool, like jade or a ceramic spoon, to scrape along the skin. This action creates red marks, known as "sha," which can last for a few days to a couple of weeks. When used on the face, it is gentle enough to not leave markings. Gua Sha promotes blood flow, reduces muscle adhesions and pain, and helps eliminate toxins.

Moxibustion, or moxa, is a heat therapy that involves burning mugwort (ai ye) near specific acupuncture points. At our clinic, we utilize smokeless moxa sticks. This technique stimulates blood flow, alleviates pain, and, when indicated, restores balance to the body.

  • Herbology is a key component of traditional East Asian medicine, utilizing the beneficial properties of various plants and herbs. These natural substances contain chemical compounds that are the basis for many contemporary medications.

Chinese herbal medicine can aid in addressing numerous health concerns such as digestive problems, respiratory ailments, skin issues, stress-related challenges, sleep disturbances, menstrual support, and more.
